Laundry On Sundaes

Every beginning is only a sequel, after all, and the book of events is always open halfway through.

Last week’s color! It’s Zoya’s Yummy, a beautiful clean sky blue (or Smurf blue, as Yufei called it).

Hope everyone had a good long weekend!

Happy Valentine’s Day! I’m scheduling this post beforehand because I will be very busy today with school and Yufei and I are leaving right after school for a little trip to Healdsburg (will definitely post about this later!).

Not only is it Valentine’s Day today, it is also Lantern Festival, marking the end of the lunar new year celebration. I’m on the board of the Chinese Health Professional Students Association at UCSF, and we held our annual Chinese Culture Night in celebration of the Year of the Horse on the eve of the new year.

It was such a fun night of performances, Chinese food, boba, photo booth photos, calligraphy, and lantern making. So many people came to the event and everyone had a great time.

We also had a gathering with my aunt’s family at my parents’ house that weekend.

There was so much delicious food! The best part of Chinese New Year :)

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous Year of the Horse!

Yufei’s been to Foreign Cinema a few times with his friends and kept raving about how great it is and I’ve been asking him to take me forever. We finally went a few weeks ago for dinner. It definitely lived up to my expectations!

We sat in the courtyard area where they project the movie. They were playing Moonrise Kingdom when we were there! I also love the string lights.

We started off with a couple of cocktails and the beef carpaccio with salsa verde, fried capers, shoestrings frites, and Manchego.

The carpaccio was really flavorful, and the frites, which were more like chips, were the perfect companion to it.

Yufei got the fried chicken with sesame seeds, chick pea hummus, raisins, and brussel sprouts for his main course.

I had a few bites and it was delicious. I decided on the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin with cranberry beans, almonds, and egg.

This was the perfect example of a dish with very simple, fresh ingredients with flavors that work so well together. It was so good.

Even though we were pretty full, Yufei insisted on dessert. So we both got chocolate desserts: Yufei had the chocolate torte with a scoop of ice cream and I got the chocolate pot de crème with chantilly cream and 2 mini macarons.

Both desserts were very rich and decadent and delicious! And as if that wasn’t enough chocolate for us, our check came with complimentary truffles too. What a wonderful dinner!

This is from a couple of weeks ago when I did my nails for the UCSF formal to match my dress. The color is Dark Navy from e.l.f. It’s a really nice deep blue color that’s almost black, with subtle shimmer.

Gorgeous color for the colder months!

A couple of weeks ago, Yufei and I attended the annual UCSF formal at the Westin St. Francis in downtown San Francisco.

I wore a blue, one-shouldered, floor length Hailey by Adrianna Papell dress. It was beautiful and comfortable and I got compliments all night!

We got there pretty early, so we had access to the fancy dessert bar! There were macarons, cake pops, and all kinds of tarts and cakes.

There were 2 rooms with dance floors playing different music. I loved the chandeliers in this one.

They also had 2 photo booths, which are always fun. We had a great time and it was a nice break from school and studying (and it’s always good to see your classmates all dressed up!).

It’s been a while since my last outfit post. This one transitioned really well from business casual at clinic on Friday to dinner at Chapeau, with a the addition of a few accessories. This is also a mostly thrifted outfit, which is becoming more and more of a norm for me!

LOFT blouse thrifted from Crossroads, Forever 21 skirt thrifted from Crossroads, Express blazer thrifted from Goodwill, grey tights – old, Naturalizer ankle boots thrifted from Goodwill, purse from Modcloth, necklace from Charlotte Russe.
