Laundry On Sundaes

Every beginning is only a sequel, after all, and the book of events is always open halfway through.

It’s high time for another DIY project! This time, I will show you how to make a stylin’ denim headband.

Project: Denim rosettes headband
Difficulty level: hard

Step 1: Gather your supplies. You will need: scrap denim fabric, scissors, needle and thread, and elastic band.

Step 2: Cut your denim fabric into a strip of 18″ x 2″.

Step 3: Fold the strip of denim lengthwise with THE RIGHT SIDE IN. Sew the edges together along the length of the fabric.

Step 4: Now you should have a tube of denim. Turn the tube inside out, so that the right side of the fabric is facing out. You can use a pencil of other long thing rod to help you. This will be the band for your headband.

Step 5: Cut 2 other strips of denim fabric of 18″ x 1″ to make the rosettes. If you have the rough edges of the fabric, use them.

Step 6: Start making a rosette by rolling the strip tightly.

Step 7: After a few rolls, start turning the strip over, so that the other side of the fabric is now on the outside. Keep twisting the fabric to make the petals of the rosette.

Step 8: Start stitching the rosette on the bottom to keep all the twists in place.

The top should look like this now:

See how the contrasting sides of the fabric and the rough edges add to the dimensions of the rosette?

Step 9: Finish making the rosette with the rest of the strip, then make another one in the same way. The finished rosette should look like this:

Step 10: Sew the rosettes onto the band. You can sew them in the center or off to the side, it’s up to you.

Step 11: Take the band and measure it against your head. Then see how much of the elastic band you need so that it will stay on nicely but not too tight. Then cut the appropriate length of elastic band, insert the ends into the openings of the band’s tube. Sew together firmly.

And you’re done! A gorgeous denim rosette headband is all yours :)
