I realized that many of the search terms that lead to my blog the most have to do with the style choices of a certain Robin Scherbatsky, so I decided to dedicate a post to it. Here I gathered the websites that I use to find where certain pieces worn by Robin came from, and I hope you find it helpful!
1. Worn on TV
A relatively new site that identifies stuff from Robin (and Lily) from mainly this past season (season 7). I love that they not only give you an exact match, but also similar, less expensive styles.
Kind of the opposite of #1, this site only has stuff from older seasons. But it gives exact matches for entire outfits!
Gives you exact product matches as well. It’s a little behind on the updating, but it might be helpful to check the page for Cobie Smulders (here) as well since sometimes they’ll have stuff on that page that’s not on the Robin one.
Search for “Cobie Smulders” or “HIMYM” in the search box and you will get quite a few posts dedicated to finding both exact matches and similar looks from Robin. You can also send in requests!
Fan-powered page for identifying clothes worn on the show (goes all the way back to season 1!). You can also post requests.
And there you have it! My secret’s out! I personally love the sites where they give you similar looks, because all the stuff they actually wear on the show are usually super pricey. Have fun dressing like Robin!
Remember the tiered coat saga last year? Yeah, that was because I saw it worn by Robin on an episode of How I Met Your Mother. The girl has great style because now once again I’m lusting after another piece of her wardrobe! In season 6, episode 8, Natural History, Robin wore this gorgeous one-shouldered royal blue dress to a gala:
I was immediately struck by how beautiful she looked (LOVE her hair here too) and how pretty the dress was, but for some reason I never looked it up. But now in the last couple of days I came across some photos from the episode (during my searches for clues about the season finale – but that’s a totally different story), and I knew I had to find the dress! It was actually pretty easy to find, and it turns out to be the La Marocain Dress by Nanette Lepore. A closer look here:
Unfortunately, the blue one is sold out pretty much everywhere (one size 0 left somewhere but I don’t think I’ll fit); it also comes in red and black but I don’t like them as much, and also none left in my size anyways. Sigh. So I do what I always do when I see a piece of clothing I like but can’t get: find imitations! So here I’ve gathered 9 different dresses of similar style. Hope you like them!
1. One Shoulder Short Blue Dress by Jasz
Not too sure about the color on this one, but I like the style.
3. Sleeveless One-Shoulder Floral Sequin Pleated Mini Dress by Roberta
4. One-Shoulder Party Dress by Adrianna Papell
This one reminds me of figure skating costumes!
5. Periwinkle Silk One-Shoulder Dress by Notte by Marchesa
This is probably the most similar dress to the original.
6. One Shoulder Party Dress by BCBGMAXAZRIA
I actually LOVE this dress!
7. One Shoulder Faux Wrap Dress by Aidan Mattox
A more casual option.
8. Clarissa One Shoulder Dress by Coast
Lastly we have 2 dresses from British label Coast.
9. Ciara Dress With One Shoulder by Coast
And I saved my favourite for last!! How amazingly gorgeous is this dress?
That is all! Which one is your favourite? I wish I could go to prom again so I can justify buying one of these!
When I saw the lovely Emma Watson’s adorable linen blue dress on one of my favorite girly blogs, The Frisky, a few days ago, I absolutely loved it.
But as I clicked through the dresses their Style Stealer column picked out, I was sorely disappointed. The color, the style, the fabric… they were just a bit off. So I decided to do my own research and found some of my own that I thought were a much better match for Emma’s dress.
From Urban Outfitters:
From Go Jane:
From Forever 21:
From Charlotte Russe:
I’m pretty much 100% sure that the last Modcloth one is the exact one that Emma was wearing! Go me for finding it :) The third one from Forever 21 is a close imitation though, and it wouldn’t be hard to change the buttons and add a belt. I think I might just have to go out a get a powder blue dress now.
Never have I coveted a piece of clothing worn by a character on a TV show like I’m coveting Robin’s gorgeous tiered coat from last week’s episode of How I Met Your Mother right now. Seriously, the thing’s beautiful! Just look at it:
As I’ve been a little obsessed with the thing for the past few days, instead of studying for my finals, I looked for it on the Internet. Here’s what I found.
Rumour has it that it’s from Burberry, and indeed I found several from Burberry that looked like it. As to be expected, none are within my price range. Oh well, I can dream, right?
Then I found this more affordable alternative at Dorothy Perkins:
It also comes in black, pink, and ochre. I’m seriously considering buying one now, except they are out of my size in every colour… made me ultra sad. Maybe they’ll get more in soon!
Browsing on Dorothy Perkins (they have cute stuff!), I found this other coat, not quite as similar to Robin’s coat but still cute:
Okay that’s it! Now I’m going to catch some sleep while dreaming about pretty tiered coats!
