January 1, 2014 Weekend Getaway to Carmel – Part 1
Yufei and I couldn’t spend the holidays together this year since he went back to Toronto to be with his family, but we took a little trip to Carmel the weekend before Christmas. We left on the Friday after the Twitter holiday party and stopped in Santa Cruz for a few hours for lunch. We got lunch at Vasilis, a homey little Greek restaurant (homey Greek restaurants are the best).
Here’s my Greek salad and moussaka:
And Yufei’s souvlaki special:
After we ate, we went to the boardwalk for a little break. It was so strange seeing the whole place so empty and abandoned for the winter.
We also walked along the beach and saw the sea lions at the wharf and got ice cream.
After a little more driving, we finally arrived at our bed and breakfast in Carmel, the Briarwood Inn.
After we got settled into our room, we walked to the beach but just missed sunset. The Twilight was still pretty though.
We walked back to the inn, in time for their nightly port and sherry service in the lobby. We were both a little tired, so we just rested on our room before getting dinner at Brophy’s Tavern, a bar a block away from the inn. We got a couple of beers, Yufei had fish and chips, and I had a small salad and calamari (which was really good and the serving was huge!)
We called it a night after that and rested for the next day’s adventures!
